Last night provided a glimmer of hope on what has been a challenging summer of off-field activity. Solent Electricals Dean Wheeler and Oilers player and electrician Josh McPhee have only gone and got all 32 bloody stinking lights on! As it's been a while since we've picked up any points on the road in the first team, I'm guessing this must be what winning feels like?!
The electrical supply to the floodlights also had it's problems towards the end of last season as frustrated opposition would travel down only for the game to be cancelled! Although improvement works are still ongoing around the Holbury Community Sports Association site, this is a big turning point for the football club and the many people who have volunteered their time and money to getting the lights back on.
Ann Frank once wrote in one of her many diaries "Look at how a single candle can both defy and define the darkness". Well, after months with the lights out defining the darkness from our football ground it feels good to have 32 high powered light bulbs erected on 60 foot floodlight poles defying the darnkess once more!
Bring on the footy back at Lee Bush Roofing Arena....Perhaps our on field luck is about to change too...Up the Oilers!
