Sydenhams wessex premier league preview: Fawley AFC v Andover Town (15/10/2016)

We've had a pretty good week of it in all! An impressive three points on the road against Alresford last Saturday thanks to a Harrison Fay goal to nil was the perfect remedy to a couple of heavy defeats against Team Solent and Bemerton Heath.

This was followed by a midweek victory in the Southampton Senior Cup against Sway with another Harrison Fay goal and a Matt Vining double, including a breathtaking volley to settle the game in the final moments!

we spoke to Aaron this evening to get his thoughts of what must be a satisfying week on and off the pitch:

Amazing turnaround at Alresford last saturday to win by the solitary goal having shipped 11 in the previous two games, what was so different about the defensive performance?

I didn’t think I would see us win a game 1-0 this season. Don’t get me wrong we rode our luck at times but we dug in and a few outstanding performances saw us over the line most notable one was Mike in the sticks....

......Lee Burch also ran a defensive session last week, which helped us work on our shape so I think that may have had an impact.

Sway proved to be a tricky match in the Southampton senior cup, what were your thoughts on the game and performance?

Vining hits double figures for the season

Vining hits double figures for the season

Sway played well and really took the game to us. We had a lot of young lads who first half seemed to be slightly intimidated by an experienced Sway side but second half we got a foot hold in the game and created chances. The goal we scored to win the game was a beaut as well. Matt Vining now in to double figures for the season.

A tough game on saturday with Glenn Burnett's Andover in good form too. Presumably a similar attitude to Alresford will be needed to pick up any points?

Yeah exactly the same, we know they’ll be a tough side. As long as we apply ourselves and work hard we’ll give ourselves the best chance at getting a result.

"Scott has been great so far, on and off the pitch. "

With Scott already doing some great things in and around the club does it make it easier for you and Darren to focus on improvements on the pitch?

Scott has been great so far, on and off the pitch. He’s made the club feel more like home. He’s still contributing with training ideas, he’s got a lot of experience that we’re tapping in to. We’ve identified areas that we need to work on and are continuing to improve.

Lewis Ross played his final game for us on Saturday against Alresford before heading back to Luton University so the only scoring he'll be doing is in the SU bar for the next few weeks. What sort of contribution has he made to the team so far this season?

"When he's around he's massive for us."

Aaron on midfield maestro Lewis Ross

When he’s around he’s massive for us. He just adds that extra quality and leadership. He’s hopeful of being back in a month or so for a couple of weeks so when he’s here we make the most of him.
