This Friday Fawley will host AFC Totton at Esso Club, 7:30pm Kick Off. A much anticipated first friendly for both sides after contrasting off seasons.
Fawley have had their limited resources and committee working tirelessly to renovate their ground as they prepare for life without the Social Club. The difficult jobs have including Floodlight maintenance which is scheduled to be completed on Friday, but airing on the side of caution we've opted for a 7:30pm KO.
AFC Totton have been boosted with several new players and a wave of optimism for the new season in The Southern League. The Stag supporters have all marked this friendly on their calendar eagerly awaiting to see their new look side in action. One new arrival at AFC Totton is one of our young oilers Callum Chugg. After a breakthrough season playing Centre Back in our first team, he's impressed many clubs with his aggressive approach to tackling, whilst also being confident with the ball at his feet. Another returning face will be Craig Feeney, once our young talented striker who has since taken Southern League by storm and attracted much interested from higher leagues.
Fawley have installed club legend Richie Coxall back as first team manager and retained their squad from last season, bar Callum Chugg. Adding several new faces and creating more competition for places the Oilers are gearing up for what they hope will be a promotion challenge. Anyone with Wessex League knowledge will be the first to explain that it's not easily done. Romsey Town, Totton & Eling, Downton, Christchurch, and Folland Sports have all gone down in the last few years and all remain in Division One, most finishing mid table.
A Fawley XI featured against QK Southampton on Tuesday, with only two of tomorrows first team squad getting minutes. Otherwise it will be their first taste of match experience this pre-season.
